EMCC was successful for Talon this year. EMCC is an off-season tournament that Talon participates in every year. It is a low-stakes tournament, using last season’s game, crescendo, designed to condition new robotics members to drive or operate a robot on a field with other robots. This allows team members who are new or inexperienced to get a great opportunity to try managing a robot in a tournament environment. EMCC operates differently from ordinary tournaments. Instead of having a set match list of who plays who, you just line up in a queue when you’re ready to scrimmage other teams. This meant that we could compete whenever we were ready, which allowed us to get a lot more practice.
Unfortunately, we faced a few issues throughout the day with our robot, Cronus, at EMCC. Our biggest concern was the intake snapping off of the robot on one side after our first match of the day. But, we rushed the robot back to the pits and were able to add a reinforcement plate to the location where the break occurred. The intake was fully operational after even after this stressful affair. The other issue that gave us problems during the tournament was that wheels that we have connecting the intake to the shooter occasionally ceased to work. This meant that the shooter wouldn’t work correctly, and we couldn’t score points. But, we tried to stay positive and were able to turn this aournd. This meant that our drivers could practice robot defense for a few matches.
All in all, this EMCC was a success, as we worked through issues and got to teach new drivers to work in a tournament atmosphere. This competition made us all so much more excited for the season to start.
