Team Whimsy

Monday – Taking a Shot at It!

Today, we worked on our intake and tested its power by catching launched balls. We then had our media meeting, where we talked about content we could make for the team. When we shifted back to the room, we gathered and bent materials for our launcher. We needed to find out the angle of our launcher and worked together to find the best materials and ways to. We then had a quick outreach meeting where we talked about upcoming events. To end the day, we cut out and attached a few different parts, getting ready to assemble our launcher.

Watch it run!

Wednesday – Electrical and CAD!

On Wednesday, we started attaching our electrical components to our frame and getting our CAD fully done and into a full 3D model. We also attached a ramp to our bot and began to plan out how to attach our shooting mechanism and funnel to put the balls in the correct position.

Saturday – Joining Forces, Now With Cheesecake!

Due to the low attendance, but a high need to get things done, both teams worked together on Saturday. On team Whimsy, we worked to get our electrical fully secured and just generally finished up some tasks. While there was still some work to be done, we needed more team members present in order to do it.

In addition to working on our robot, some Whimsy members helped out team Purple with assembling and machining parts for their intake/shooter. Despite being split into two teams for MinneTrials, we’re all a part of the same Talon and make sure to support each other as any good teammates would.

Probably the best part of Saturday was one of our mentors bringing in some pumpkin cheesecake she made! As you could probably guess, a team of hungry high schoolers might be some of the best people to taste-test recipes. It was a great way to wrap up room before we all headed to a team outreach event, volunteering with Feed My Starving Children!
