What is MinneTrials?
MinneTrials is an initiative with the goal of training new team members on the basics of robotics to give them more confidence before our official season starts. This project is run by Minnesota teams and provides a simplified version of a traditional robotics season.
Rookie members will be split into teams and tasked with building a robot to play in the game. The MinneTrials “season” runs at a much smaller scale than our official one, but allows its participants to learn all the skills they need! Each MinneTrials team will be supported by the experienced students on Talon, helping them get more experience training as well. This will be our team’s second year participating in this event. We hope to see you there!
This year’s game is Popcorn Premiere. It’s a super fun, popcorn themed game! Teams compete to score “popcorn” and “butter” into their “popcorn buckets.” There’s a variety of ways to score during the game, and each team will have drivers “human players” to get those points! If you would like more information you can view the rules here and you can check out the field CAD here!

How much of a time commitment is MinneTrials?
MinneTrials open room, the time for teams to come in and work on their robots, is held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:30-9:00. However, you absolutely do NOT need to go every day or stay the full duration! The season will run from October to our competition on December 6th or 7th!
Do I need any experience to join?
Nope! This is our opportunity to train new people, no matter how little experience you have, you are welcome! We won’t make you use any tool you aren’t comfortable with, and there’s no judgment here.
What can I expect to do on my team?
In order to make a robot, we need people to design, CAD, construct, program, and drive it! Every part of the process is super important, and you will get the chance to be involved in every part you’re interested in. You will also gain experience in skills such as teamwork and communication as you work together to build your robot and keep everyone on the same page.
