Welcome to Talon! New Member Open House

New Faces, New Friends

This is our team’s first major recruitment event after our school’s activities rush. We take advantage of this new interest to get people registered and connected with their new team. Robotics is a club that can seem like it has a high barrier of entry, but we couldn’t be more beginner-friendly! As part of our mission to make our team inclusive to all members, no matter how long you’ve been around, we host our New Member Open House! There, we offer anyone interested in the team a no-commitment, relaxed environment to ask questions and get to know some of their new teammates. Of course, it wouldn’t be a recruitment event without the most important part, free pizza!

We had a great crowd!

Happy to Help!

One of the main things that we do at events is answer countless questions about what we do as a team. This is great practice for talking to judges in the future and allows us to have conversations about why people should join our team. Many of our current members will bring friends to this variety of event, and even if busy schedules keep people from being able to join they can still stop by and have some fun!

We also got the chance to share our team’s sponsorship information with the interested parents. This allows us to get new and personal connections with potential sponsors. The sponsorships we gain from these connections help our team a lot, any donation is valued and our team relies on them to keep us going throughout the years. If you/your company are interested in sponsoring our team you can find the information here!

Fun with Cronus!

If you were following us throughout the season you may have noticed that the robot we used for demos this year was not our competition bot. While we love Lefty, our Reefscape robot, it is not a great bot for demos. Due to this, we use our Cresendo robot, Cronus, instead! The most notable trait of Cronus is its ability to shoot rings, or as the game called them “notes,” for people to catch.

This helps us really engage people and make the robot appear a lot less scary. When you can play with something it’s a lot harder to be intimidated by it! Plus the activity helps keep kids entertained and asking questions about how we build the robot. Some of the best conversations we’ve had about our building process were built on the thoughts of a curious kid!

Catch with Cronus!
