What is FLL?
FLL, or First Lego League, is a program by FIRST based around two main components. The obvious part of FLL is the robot itself, which is fully designed, built, and programmed by students to complete various “missions” in their field. Their robot is semi-autonomous, relying on code the students create during the season.
The second half of FLL is the Innovation Project. Students find an issue relevant to the theme of the season and design a solution to address it. How they go about solving the problem is fully up to them; the team researches and presents their findings to judges at their competition. At their competition, they present their robot, code, and teamwork. FLL aims to get its participants more comfortable and confident in their ability to create robots, present their passions, and work as a team! Season Reveal and Meeting Teammates
This year’s FLL kickoff was emceed by a past FLL team, The Incredibots! Their team has since moved up to FTC, but plans to help mentor one of our FLL teams. Being able to involve students further in their areas of interest is a fundamental part of our programs. They gave us an incredible rundown of what FLL was, why it was important, and what we’d be doing this season.

This season is UNEARTHED, an archeology-themed season promising to make students dig deep and explore! Teams can now watch the mission video and get started on planning their robot. Kickoff was also the opportunity for teams to meet each other and get to know the people they’ll be working with this season. Each team has two parent coaches and at least one mentor from Talon to help them out this season! We can’t wait to see how these teams tackle the challenges of the season. We’d like to give a big thank you to all the parents who are dedicating their time to helping these teams. FLL wouldn’t be possible without you!
