Getting the Word Out!
Sparklefest is the 3rd of July event put on by the city at Round Lake Park. It features a wide variety of vendors, sensory-friendly activities, and a drone show to end the night! A great opportunity offered by these outreach events is the ability to advertise our programs directly to our community. The primary focus of our advertising was to get the word out about our FLL registration opening and our Girls Coding Camps. Talking to people and seeing an interest in STEM grow is a personal favorite part of these events. STEM is an important part of life, and helping people find their passion for it is something wonderful that we can do!

Catch with Cronus!
We brought our 2024 bot, Cronus, to interact with people who stopped by. It shoots “notes,” large foam rings, for people to catch and throw! Being able to interact with robots is always a hit and a great way to grab attention.

Now it wouldn’t be a robotics event if we didn’t have to do some problem solving. Unfortunately, the summer heat and motors don’t get along. Due to this, we had to make sure we were giving Cronus breaks to cool off. While the robot was out of commission, we used the opportunity to give people an up-close demo on how all the parts worked together. Luckily, we have plenty of time during our summer open rooms to fix and improve it for future events.

Team Building
While community outreach is the focus of events like these, we always find ways to connect with our teammates! A fun way we wrapped up this event was staying and watching the drone show over the lake together at the end of the night. In addition to the dedicated team builder, we also gave all team members the opportunity to practice discussing the team, demo the robot, and get to know each other better. Overall, Sparklefest was a lot of fun and a fantastic time!
